Those that can?t wait for a new Prius have been paying $1,000 to $3,000 over the sticker price for a used one. The hybrid is becoming a small moneymaker for those that waited for a new one and will just turn around and sell it for a few-thousand dollars profit. Others are spending thousands over sticker to hedge against gas prices?. At least there is one sane voice in the story; a senior analyst for Kelley says that all you are doing is paying to be the first on your block to have one.

Seems a bit early to be releasing the 2006?s out of the gate already, but Toyota expects the ?06 Solara and Solara convertibles at dealerships by next week. What?s new? Not much. Power driver?s seat lumbar support is standard (woo-hoo!) and all four-cylinder models drop the four-speed auto and get a five-speed sequential automatic ECT-i, which allows manual shifting from the gated shifter. Prices climb $60 on all models from the $19,380 Solara SE to the convertible SLE at $29,810.

Toyota Corolla and sport sedan. Words not likely to appear in the same conversation let alone the same sentence. Until now, that is. With the arrival of the new Corolla XRS, Toyota has finally given its superbly executed but largely unexciting compact 4-door the kind of image-boost it’s sorely needed. In the process, it’s also created a car that delivers loads of driving diversion while sacrificing little in the way of functionality or cost-effectiveness.
