If Cadillac wants to be taken seriously, they have to walk the walk; and the best way to do so is to take on the best. Once the Cimarron and iDrive jokes have subsided, AutoWeek came away with one winner and one impressive loser. The BMW 545i bests the Caddy in handling and performance but the STS does come close to the Munich cruiser. AutoWeek worries about the creeping vine of electronics that are wrangling the driving away from the driver and gives the best advice about selecting options: “anything rubber or metal is good, anything that pops up or requires additional luminescent gauges you might not need.” Agreed. We can’t wait until the M5 vs STS-V contest.

Cadillac’s $76,200 convertible halo car still looks good it just isn’t rolling off dealer’s lots. While a few readers might think the current 200 day supply is yet another horrible miscalculation by GM, it was just in August when GM considered upping production to meet demand. Now they’re reducing how many XLR’s are assembled each day from 23 to 12. In the 18 months since it’s launch only 4,744 XLRs were sold. Expectations were 6,000 annually. Of course we can’t imagine anyone wanting to drop $75K on a convertible during the past four months.
