Audi A4

The best-selling car in Audi’s lineup gets only minor changes for 2005. The Audi A4 comes in sedan, Avant wagon, and Cabriolet convertible body styles. The 1.8T versions use a turbo 4-cyl engine, the 3.0 models a V6. Sedans and convertibles offer front-wheel drive or Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive; all Avants have quattro. Three transmissions are available. Quattros use a 6-speed manual or a conventional 5-speed automatic. Convertibles and the front-drive V6 sedan have a continuously variable automatic transmission. This CVT is available for the front-drive 1.8T sedan in lieu of a 5-speed manual. The CVT provides variable drive ratios, plus six preset “gears” selected from the floor shift or steering-wheel buttons.

The high-performance S4 sedan, wagon, and convertible models have quattro, a V8 engine, and 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission, plus unique trim, sport suspension, and 18-inch wheels. Other Audi A4s come with 16-inch wheels; 17-inch wheels and 18-inch wheels are part of Sport Package options that also include a firmer suspension. Every Audi A4/S4 includes antilock 4-wheel disc brakes and antiskid system. Audi Sedans and Audi Avants add head-protecting curtain side airbags and front torso side airbags; rear torso side airbags are available. Cabriolets have front side airbags that provide head and torso protection, plus rear support bars that pop up automatically to protect occupants in a rollover. They include a power-folding top with heated glass rear window.

A navigation system is optional for the Audi V6 and Audi S4 models. Dealer-installed satellite radio is available for all. For 2005, optional OnStar assistance is dropped, and the xenon headlamps available for Audi A4 sedans and Audi Avants switch from high-beam to dual-beam units.

Audi A6 Quote
Audi A6

The Audi A6 is redesigned for 2005, giving it new styling, more room, and more power. Wheelbase grows by 3.2 inches compared to the 1998-2004 A6, but other dimensions are virtually unchanged. The Audi sedan comes as the 3.2 model with a 255-hp V6 and as the 4.2 with a 335-hp V8. Both have a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift capability and Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive. Also included is Audi’s MMI operating system that uses one knob on the center console to take the place of conventional dashboard controls for many of the car’s accessories.
Sold alongside the redesigned sedan for 2005 is Audi’s SUV-flavored allroad wagon. This retains a 1998-2004 design and comes with quattro. It offers a 2.7T model with a turbocharged 250-hp V6 and the 4.2 with a 300-hp V8. Both use a 5-speed automatic transmission, with the 2.7T also available with a 6-speed manual.

All Audi A6s have front side airbags and head-protecting curtain side airbags; rear torso side airbags are optional. Also standard are antilock 4-wheel disc brakes and an antiskid system. Xenon headlamps are standard for the 4.2 models and optional for the others. The Audi 3.2 sedan is available with 16-, 17-, and 18-inch wheels. The Audi 4.2 sedan is available with 17s or 18s. Among Audi allroads, the 2.7T has 17s and the 4.2 has 18s. Available features include a navigation system, satellite radio, and, for sedans, steering-linked adaptive headlights.

Audi A8 Quote
Audi A8

The Audi A8 welcomes a new shorter-wheelbase base model and 12-cylinder flagship to its Audi A8 line for 2005. The Audi A8 is shorter by 5.1 inches in wheelbase and in overall length than the carryover A8 L. Both models have a 330-hp 4.2-liter V8. The A8 L W12 has a 450-hp 6.0-liter W12. Its 12-cyl engine is essentially a mating of two V6s. A 6-speed automatic with manual shift gate and sport mode is the sole transmission offering. Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive is standard. Also standard is an air suspension with four driver-selectable settings: ride-oriented Comfort, self-adjusting Automatic, sporty Dynamic, and Lift for deep snow or unpaved surfaces. Front and rear side airbags, front knee airbags, and head-protecting curtain side airbags are standard. So are ABS, antiskid control, xenon headlights, and a navigation system. W12 has 19-inch wheels. Available for A8 and A8 L are 18- and 19-inch wheels in place of the standard 17-inch wheels. Steering-linked adaptive headlamps are exclusive to W12. Standard on the Audi W12 and available for the Audi A8 and Audi A8 L are rear DVD entertainment and keyless access that operates without removing keyfob from pocket or purse. Among the options are satellite radio and adaptive cruise control designed to maintain a set distance from traffic ahead.
