2005 Mitsubishi Outlander

2005 Mitsubishi Outlander Reinforced Safety with Matched Performance Parts and Accessories
By Jenny McLane

The Outlander is built on a rigid unibody chassis and benefits from Mitsubishi’s extensive experience in international rallies and raids. The Outlander benefits from such body-strengthening techniques as MASH seam welding and what Mitsubishi

calls its RISE design (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution). Much of this technology was developed from the company’s winning efforts in the Paris-Dakar raid as well as its involvement in the World Rally Championship with the Lance.

It has four doors and a roomy cargo area that’s easily accessible. Like other small crossover sport utilities, the Mitsubishi Outlander offers elevated seating for better visibility.

Mitsubishi’s 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine is rated at 160 horsepower, matching the output of the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. Mitsubishi tuned the Outlander’s engine to deliver the bulk of its torque at lower engine speeds. Mitsubishi’s MIVEC electronic variable-valve setup helps the engine to operate at peak power and efficiency throughout the rev range.

The 2005 Mitsubishi Outlander is available in three models: LS, XLS, and Limited. All come with the 160-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. Most models come standard with an automatic, but the base models come with a five-speed manual. Each is available with front-wheel drive (2WD) or all-wheel drive (AWD).

The LS trim includes air conditioning; cruise control; power windows and locks; power folding rearview mirrors; a height-adjustable steering wheel; height-adjustable driver’s seat; a 140-watt, four-speaker AM/FM/CD audio system. It also has an analog clock; center console with storage; two 12-volt accessory outlets; 60/40 split, folding and reclining back seat; intermittent windshield and rear window wipers, and 16-inch steel wheels. A cargo cover, floor mats, keyless entry, and roof rails come standard on the AWD model and are optional on the 2WD model

XLS trim adds a rear spoiler, premium cloth seat fabric, extra speakers, whiteface gauges and clock, a leather steering wheel and shift knob, see-through headrests, a tubular roof rack and alloy wheels. Options for XLS 2WD include a Sun & Sound package with a 210-watt Infinity audio system with six-CD changer and sunroof.

The new Limited and Limited AWD have heated leather seats, front side airbags, heated outside mirrors, and body-colored fender flares and air dams.

Safety equipment includes three-point seatbelts for all five seating positions. Both front seats feature seatbelt pretensioner and force-limiter technology, which can help reduce injuries in an accident. Also standard are: child safety seat anchors. Anti-lock brakes are optional on the XLS and Limited models; ABS helps the driver maintain control of the car in an emergency braking situation.

Hybrid Trucks

Hybrid Trucks
By Lance Winslow II

We have all heard all the talk about the fuel economy and innovations of Hybrid Cars and how they are sweeping the nation. Last year in 2004 in fact over 88,000 Hybrids were sold and waiting lists are still climbing. Honda, Toyota and Ford cannot build them fast enough.

Things are changing indeed. Although still a drop in the bucket considering the average 17 million cars sold each year in the United States we can see a hyperbolic trend forming as oil prices stay high. Also with China and India entering the global game for demand for oil we will see the price per barrel to continue to remain high even if OPEC decides to stay on the same team, which built their industry there.

The Japanese are now showcasing their technologies in medium sized trucks. In fact Hino Motors, which makes the very popular box type delivery trucks you see around town is now making a diesel electric version to be available in the 2006 models in the US. They have been available in Japan since 2003. The unit is called the Hino 165 Hybrid; pictured here:

The price is still a little steep at $116,000 per truck which is just over two times the cost, but Hino a spokesman said in Transport Topics that in fact the fuel savings over a three year period would cover the additional costs and the Public Relations for companies and the tax incentives in states like MA, CA and NY would more than entice buyers to switch over. The fuel saving is a solid 14 to 27% over the conventional models like the Isuzu and other competing trucks like the one pictured here;

Hino of North America is convinced that buyers will put up the extra money for the new hybrids and many government agencies are already trying to order them. Meanwhile waiting lists at some fleet dealership locations are not forming. Think on this.

Online Auto Classifieds

Here is a nice summary that I found talking about the advantages/disadvantages of selling your car online. Looking for a great solution that won’t break the bank? Sell your car on LiveDeal.com (free personal postings for life!)

Auto Classifieds — Online or Off?
By Graeme Sprigge

Auto Classifieds are a great way to sell your car. But you have a choice now to sell online, offline or a combination of both.

Let me just give you a few quick pros and cons that should jog a decision.

The Advantages of Online Auto Classifieds

wide coverage
nice pictures possible
more space for description
usually can be found from a search engine
run it till you sell more common

Disadvantages:

search means customer usually searching for that exact car or near to it - misses buyers who chance on your car
depends on traffic of site as too whether your ad is seen
lower trust from internet based advertising
Misses non-internet people

The Advantages of Offline Auto Classifieds
higher trust factor
picks up online and offline buyers
no computer knowledge or site technology to interfere with the buying process

Disadvantages

pictures expensive
less room for description
may miss ‘online only’ buyers.

You may be able to think of a few more. Now for some facts. The six cars I sold last year, were all advertised in online AND offline auto classifieds, and were sold for the price I wanted. Three were sold from online classifieds and three from offline.

So from this statistic, the solution would seem to be - spread your message across both mediums.

Well that’s it for now.

Happy Selling!
