More Consumers Opting for Auto Leases

DETROIT — To understand the comeback of new-vehicle leasing, look to two BMW dealerships in suburban Detroit. About seven in 10 of Wayne Youngblood’s customers are opting for a lease instead of a loan, far more than the past few years. “Leasing gives you the ability to have more car for less cash going out every month,” said Youngblood, general manager of Bavarian BMW and Bavarian Motor Village.

Audi Q7

A lot of noise has been heard about the style, substance and price Audi Q7, Audi’s first SUV. Many of us may wonder why the next allroad quattro (if it happens) couldn’t continue its reign as the anti-SUV. AutoWeek took a 35 mph spin in the Audi allroad quattro concept that debuted with little fanfare at Detroit. Powertrain in the Audi is a 4.0-liter TDI V8; an engine that AutoWeek says could be “a diesel that gasoline lovers just fall for”.

Land Rover LR3 now with a V-6

Land Rover is adding a 216 horsepower, 269 lb.-ft of torque 4.0-liter V-6 to the LR3 line up. The new engine will be able to tow 7,700 pounds and the EPA mileage is 14 city, 19 highway. It will be mated to the same six-speed ZF automatic transmission that features manual control of gear selections. The V-6 model will not be a bare-bones truck with standard features like leather seating, 240-watt harman/kardon six-disc changer and 9 speakers, and a power sunroof. Base price of the LR3 SE will be $38,950 undercutting the V-8 model by a little over $5,000. A limited number of V-6 powered LR3s will be available at dealers in July.
